Senior Research Associate, Analytical Development

Great opportunity to join a growing gene therapy company! Our client is dedicated to the development of novel therapies for rare disease, and they are currently looking for candidates that mirror their passion for the therapeutic treatment of rare diseases that will advance the gene therapy field.

Working in close collaboration with other Analytical Development team members, the Senior Research Associate will develop and qualify advanced analytical methods for AAV vectors to measure key quality attributes for AAV therapeutic materials, to support process development, product characterizations, and QC release testing.


  • Develop LC/MS based methods for the characterization of AAV capsid proteins
  • Develop and qualify HPLC and CE based methods to quantitatively measure the purity of the AAV gene therapy vectors, including empty capsid, aggregation, and capsid protein purity
  • Execute analytical test methods to support bioprocess development
  • Write, prepare and present technical data, technical reports and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for internal use and transfer to external sites
  • Provide technical support to cross-function groups and external collaborators
  • Evaluate new analytical platforms, and stay up-to-date on state-of-the-art methodologies for AAV characterization


  • BS or MS in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related discipline with at least 6 years industry experience or PhD with at least 1 year of industry experience in analytical development.
  • HPLC/UPLC experience analyzing nucleic acids, virus capsids, antibodies and/or other biologics materials by a variety of chromatographic methods (RP, SEC, IEX).
  • Hands-on experience with CE methods, such as CE-SDS and cIEF, for the analysis of biological materials.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with developing LC/MS based methods.
  • Working experience in viral particle analysis is highly desired.
  • Excellent laboratory, computer, documentation, and organization skills.
  • Strong collaborative work ethic and excellent time management skills for ongoing testing in parallel with new method development, in a fast-paced, scientifically rigorous, cross-functional team environment.
