Looking for a Lab Supervisor for one of the top agricultural companies in Woodland, CA!

Job title: Lab Manager and Area Safety Focal point


The incumbent will oversee two major areas in Woodland, CA of the company, namely Area Safety Focal Point and Lab Management roles

Area Safety Focal Point role includes the following responsibilities

  • Closely work with Company and ensure that training and safety compliance are current and complete.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain/update IIPP, Chemical Hygiene Plan, HazCom Plan, Respirator Training Plan
  • Fulfill safety training in all areas covered by these plans for all current lab/greenhouse workers
  • Update chemical inventory
  • Build SDS library and links in chemical inventory - train employees on access
  • Establish and facilitate full safety onboarding for new employees (contractors and FTEs)
  • Establish Clean Harbors account (including all EPA registration and paperwork)
  • Establish procedures with Clean Harbors (possibly coordinate with Bayer)
  • Maintain evacuation roster
  • Work with the Greenhouse manager and establish evacuation procedures/alerts for greenhouses
  • Put up bulletin board with proper lab signage and keep it current with policy changes (county, state, federal)
  • Work with consultants to ensure we have proper spill kits and numbers of each
  • Maintain/check spill kits, fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, first aid kits, and showers monthly
  • Schedule/complete annual maintenance and certification of equipment (fume hoods, biosafety cabinets, fire extinguishers)
  • Submit work orders to company (and follow up on completion) for issues with eyewashes/showers (currently have significant rust buildup in one of the eyewash stations)
  • Check regularly and maintain devitalization system
  • Build and maintain system for reporting near misses and injuries/resolutions
  • Regularly check chemical storage for compatibility, maintain hazardous waste labels, and ensure hazardous waste is processed within the allotted time frame (dependent on material - usually 3, 6 or 9 months)
  • Establish and follow any APHIS safety requirements (including training)
  • Give applicable safety training classes and recertifications as required (many with different requirements for lab and GH, and also different in CA than MA)
  • Stock safety glasses, check and replenish visitor stash weekly
  • Assist employees in getting any specific PPE (prescription safety glasses, cooling vests, task specific PPE, etc)
  • Order lab coats as needed and managing needs (new coats, swapping sizes, following up onn missing cleaning/return cycles, etc.) with CINTAS

Laboratory Management and Experimental Support

  • Make and autoclave media and other solutions
  • Prepare and parafilm media plates
  • General lab hygiene maintenance, including washing dishes, autoclaving glassware, scheduling lab cleaning with the janitorial crew
  • Conduct or schedule equipment maintenance and calibration
  • Ship and receive regulated materials

Ordering and Inventory Maintenance

  • Place and receive orders - processing in Prendio
  • Following up on missing orders and checking payment processing
  • Finding alternative reagent/consumable replacements
  • Tracking and maintaining inventories
    • standard assays and kits

    • media precursor solutions
    • consumables
    • safety data sheets (based on chemical inventory)


  • Bachelor's degree in science
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)
  • Previous experience in Lab Management is essential
  • High level flexibility in Lab management is required
  • Great organizational skills are essential
