Aerotek Engineering is seeking a Traffic Design Engineer to support a growing firm in Northern Virginia. The Traffic Design Engineer will work on challenging transportation design projects providing technical expertise and ensuring compliance with locality and state DOT standards. They will also serve as Task Manager and collaborate with multidisciplinary team and provide guidance and direction to project team for various traffic design tasks on roadway, bridge and interchange improvements, intersection modifications and pedestrian/bike facilities projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare traffic signal design plans for new intersections and signal modifications to facilitate multimodal accommodations
  • Prepare temporary traffic control plan/traffic management plan (TMP) and signing, pavement marking plans
  • Prepare streetlight design plan and perform photometric analysis using Agi32
  • Prepare Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) design plans
  • Prepare quantities and develop PS&E packages supporting highway design projects
  • Assist in preparing conceptual intersection layouts, schematics, signal timings and engineering reports
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers
  • Attend project meetings with clients

Required Candidate Qualifications

  • EIT - MUST
  • BS or Advanced Degree in Civil Engineering
  • 5 - 10 Years of traffic engineering experience
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with VDOT and/or DDOT traffic design standards, MUTCD and AASHTO
  • Familiarity with traffic programs including Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS
  • Local state DOT experience is preferred
  • Experience developing Traffic Control Plans
  • Signal/Lighting Design experience
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Experience in developing own time management and organizational skills required to undertake multiple projects or facets of various projects
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer
