Transmission Planning Engineer

This position is part of a team that creates and publishes the 5-year and 10-year Electric Delivery Transmission Construction Plans. This position conducts annual transmission planning studies to support the Tampa Electric Company capital construction program. This position completes studies and documentation to support Tampa Electric Company compliance activities. This position is responsible for completing studies and documentation for transmission and generation interconnections studies. This position may serve and represent Tampa Electric Company on various industry committees.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform engineering analysis and create the Tampa Electric Company 5 and 10-year Transmission Capital Construction plan. Include protection, control equipment and telecommunications system capabilities and impacts in the design of transmission system modification and expansion projects. Develop project scopes, costs, and schedules. Provide technical support to Project Management team by completing cost estimates, analysis, and justification-documentation, as necessary.
Perform engineering analysis and documentation for completion of transmission service requests and generation interconnection studies. Coordinate studies with transmission customers and transmission owner-operators as required.
Perform power system steady-state load flow contingency analysis, short circuit analysis, and dynamic stability analysis of the interconnected transmission system.
Complete analysis, studies, reports and documentation for NERC Reliability Standards and governmental compliance activities. Comply with FERC Open Access Transmission Tariff and Generator Interconnection Applications (LGIA and SGIA).
Represent Tampa Electric Company on various Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC) groups including Stability Analysis Subcommittee (SAS) and Transmission Technical Subcommittee (TTS).
Maintain both the Near-Term and Long-Term transmission planning models and contingencies utilizing Siemens Power Technologies International PSS/E and PowerGEM TARA software tools. Work with counterparts at other utilities through the FRCC, SERC, Customers, Government and/or Regulatory Agencies, Vendors, and Consultants to support system modeling and system modification and expansion projects.
Perform additional duties as required such as annual loss studies, storm restoration role, and miscellaneous administrative duties.
