The incumbent will be responsible for initiating and carrying out scientific projects, under the supervision of senior scientists and in collaboration with other research scientists. The position involves the structural and biochemical characterization of viral glycoproteins from Emerging Infectious pathogens including SARS-CoV-2 to enable vaccine development, antibody therapeutics and small molecule inhibitors as part of a multi-faceted therapeutics discovery and development pipeline at WRAIR. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting and publishing research. The incumbent will work within a multidisciplinary environment consisting of military, government, academic, and international collaborators.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum Education: Doctoral degree in structural biology, molecular biology, immunology, microbiology, biochemistry or related discipline required. 4+ years post-baccalaureate laboratory experience in X-ray crystallography, Electron Microscopy or structural biology. Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 0-5 years of relevant work experience required. Experience in structural biology or related area with significant experience in X-ray protein crystallography or Cryo-EM. . Experience and proficiency in protein purification, protein characterization, X-ray crystallography including up-to-date knowledge of relevant programs including CCP4, and Phenix packages. Experience with project planning, implementation, and data analysis. Experience in presenting at scientific meetings and writing manuscripts for scientific journals. Practical knowledge of molecular modelling or structure-based mutagenesis and design is an advantage.
