|Job Description:||Work closely with mechanical and multidisciplinary engineers to ensure that the designs for a spaceflight hardware payload/ experiment for the International Space Station (ISS) are met.
Work to ensure the design of related Ground Support Equipment (GSE/ MGSE) are completed and that the GSE is effective for test and validation of the spacecraft elements.
Design of mechanical solutions that can fulfill requirements at the systems level for coordination with the ISS. This includes understanding the interfaces required for power, positioning, sustainment, etc.
Perform mechanical design studies, detailed designs including drawings for manufacturing and installation, documented stress analysis, and presentations at NASA reviews when required.
Works closely with the project lead to ensure all program and payload requirements are followed and met to NASA guidelines.
Design of components and fixtures will be done with the Solidworks CAD package.
Mechanical Analysis of systems will be performed with NASTRAN/ FEMAP/ PATRAN.
|Work Environment:||Working onsite at the Wallops Island Flight Facility and managed out of the Beltsville, MD Northrop facility.
CAN START REMOTELY DURING PANDEMIC.
|Qualifications:||Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering
At least 4-7 yrs of relevant experience.
Requires knowledge of interfaces for payloads and experiments to the International Space Station (ISS)
Requires knowledge of mechanical stress or dynamics analysis topics. Not requiring specific experience with a SW package but understanding the elements.
Knowledge of mechanical design utilizing Solidworks or related 3D CAD package.
Prefer exposure and experience in FEA SW including NASTRAN/ PATRAN/ FEMAP but it is not required.
