TEKsystems is looking for a Central Office technician for one of our top clients. They offer a great environment, growth and more Below are the following top skills

1. 1-2 years working in a TELECOM central office. Might have worked in "head ends" or what they call a "POP" (Point of Presence)

2. 3-4 years of experience understanding the circuit layout and designs

3. 3-4 years' experience knowing how to verify light levels for migrated optical ports and attenuate to achieve the designed target level per the loss budget. These ports can range from DS3, OC3, OC12, OC48, OC192, Gigabit optical interfaces



Job Description

Our client is doing a lot of CTAC, Tier 1- Tier 4 NOC work, and professional services programs on the wireline and wireless side of the business. They support their clients TDM switches such as your 5ESS, DMS 10, DMS 100 and etc. These are older switches that has to be supported in which there are 7,000+ of these running the network. They are the largest supplier in the country of TDM switch support. They have about 7,000 switches across the country for Tier 4. On the program side they have a lot of Tier 1 clients such as AT&T, Verizon, and Spectrum. CTAC side they have 30+ clients which is Tier 1 and Tier 2 carriers.

They go through an audit phase in which they go into a central office and do an audit. They are tracing fibers out or using a fiber finder to locate the AN and VN and recording it in a spreadsheet.

What they are ultimately doing is grooming circuits out of the location into a new location so the can close the location and save the money on the lease and power for the building. They will have to go back and pre-wire when eventually they will work nights because when you groom you have to do it within the maintenance window.
