Machine Operator is responsible for working on a lap machine and machining high precision balls. A lapping machine is a machining process, in which two surfaces are rubbed together with an abrasive between them, by hand movement or by way of a machine.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- 40% of the time setting up lapping machines to correct tolerances for machining - tolerances vary from medium tolerances to close tolerances as well as unpolished to high inch finish. Also will set up lap with proper compound which can be anything from steel, stainless steel, TC, and alloy.
- 40% of the time running the laps to obtain parts of proper size, spherical, and finish. Throughout the machining process do checks and adds to the compound as necessary.
- 10% of the time clean the lap
