Job Description:
This role focuses on delivering Geographic Information System (GIS)-based solutions for data conversion, mapping, analysis, and other related tasks within the Corporate Real Estate (CRE) department. You will coordinate with the Supervisor and Project Specialist to ensure the business unit meets customer needs, particularly by maintaining telecommunication fiber assets within a GIS framework.
Responsibilities:
- Support the operation and business development of fiber network infrastructure using OSPInsight, 3-GIS, and Esri software.
- Compile, integrate, edit, and maintain spatial and non-spatial data from various sources for inclusion in GIS.
- Analyze engineering and construction drawings, survey maps, splicing diagrams, substation layouts, and other documentation for GIS data entry and correction.
- Assist telecom engineers, field crews, sales teams, infrastructure management, and other telecom customers with mapping, data requests, data analysis, data conversion, and related tasks.
- Oversee GIS technical operations, ensuring optimal data management and visualization practices.
- Lead complex GIS projects, from data management to visualization.
- Mentor junior GIS technicians and ensure alignment of technical activities with GIS strategies.
- Engage with stakeholders on GIS technical requirements and drive continuous improvement in GIS technical operations.
Essential Skills:
- Proficiency in GIS and mapping software, specifically Esri ArcGIS.
- 4+ years of experience in GIS-related fields.
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Proficiency with Python or other scripting languages.
- Working knowledge of Esri software, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- GIS Professional (GISP) Certification is a plus.
- Esri certifications are a plus.
- Experience in the utilities industry, specifically in fiber network design, construction, or maintenance, is preferred.
- Experience with OSPInsight, 3-GIS, or other fiber management software is preferred.
- Broad knowledge of Remote Sensing, Global Positioning System (GPS), and current GIS industry trends.

This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $37.00/hr.
