Job Title: Process Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to lead and support process improvement and implementation efforts in a dynamic, startup industrial environment. This role is deeply embedded in daily operations and requires a proactive individual who thrives in hot, smelly, and physically demanding conditions—not a desk job, but one that works shoulder-to-shoulder with operators and technicians to solve real-time challenges.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage complex process improvement and materials recovery projects from planning through execution.
- Develop, document, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process workflows.
- Establish and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure process efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing principles and process flow optimization.
- Own and manage process charge changes, ensuring alignment with production goals and safety standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth startup and ongoing operations.
- Maintain clear communication between engineering and execution teams.
- Conduct cost analysis and risk assessments, providing mitigation strategies as needed.
- Deliver training and documentation to operators and managers on new processes and systems.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety procedures, regulations, and best practices.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years of experience in process engineering within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, preferably mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulatory compliance in industrial operations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results under pressure.
- Project management and process optimization.
- Strong experience in plant/production environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in metallurgy or working with various metals in a production environment is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with HMI systems and programming capabilities is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of materials, corrosion, and basic battery chemistry.
- Plant design and commissioning experience.
- Operator training and SOP development.
- Plant economics and maintenance planning.
Work Environment
The work environment is a hands-on, industrial setting that is hot, smelly, and dirty—not a traditional desk job. Employees are expected to work directly on the shop floor, engaging with operators and technicians to resolve real-time issues. The facility processes approximately 10,000 tons of scrap lithium-ion batteries annually, with plans for future expansion. The work culture promotes creativity and the implementation of new processes within a small engineering team in a startup environment.
