Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description
This role focuses on drawing blood and performing specimen processing in a physician office setting, primarily serving cancer patients and other individuals with difficult draws. The phlebotomist collects and receives biological specimens, accurately enters data into the laboratory computer system, prepares samples for analytical testing, and ensures specimens reach the correct analytical areas. The position covers both pre- and post-analytical aspects of testing and may include performing specified analytical tests as assigned, while following established codes of conduct and laboratory standards.
Responsibilities
- Draw blood from patients, including cancer patients and those with difficult veins, using safe, accurate, and compassionate techniques.
- Collect and receive biological specimens into the department and verify patient and specimen identification according to established procedures.
- Accurately enter patient and specimen information into the laboratory computer system to ensure proper tracking and processing.
- Prepare samples for analytical testing, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, and organizing specimens as required.
- Distribute specimens to the appropriate analytical areas in a timely and accurate manner.
- Handle both pre-analytical and post-analytical aspects of testing, ensuring quality, accuracy, and proper documentation.
- Perform specified analytical tests as assigned, following laboratory protocols and safety guidelines.
- Work closely with physicians and medical assistants in a doctor’s office setting to support patient care and coordinate blood draw needs.
- Provide patient-focused care by communicating clearly, offering reassurance, and maintaining professionalism during all interactions.
- Adhere to the organization’s Code of Conduct, laboratory policies, and all applicable safety and compliance standards.
- Collaborate as a supportive team member, contributing to a positive and efficient work environment.
Essential Skills
- At least 1–2 years of phlebotomy experience, including experience with cancer patients and difficult blood draws.
- Proficiency in blood collection techniques, including venipuncture and specimen collection for a variety of tests.
- Hands-on experience with specimen processing, including labeling, handling, and preparing samples for analysis.
- Ability to accurately enter and manage patient and specimen data in a laboratory or clinical computer system.
- Demonstrated patient care skills, with the ability to work sensitively and professionally with individuals undergoing cancer treatment.
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with medical assistants, physicians, and other clinical staff.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Commitment to following established codes of conduct, safety procedures, and laboratory protocols.

Work Environment
This position is based in a physician office within a cancer center environment, working Monday through Friday from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m in Scottsdale AZ 85258. You MUST live 15 miles or less from the location. The phlebotomist will draw blood from the physician’s patients and work closely with medical assistants and other clinical staff in a collaborative, patient-focused setting. The role involves frequent interaction with oncology patients and individuals requiring complex or difficult draws. Work is performed in a clinical environment that uses standard laboratory and phlebotomy equipment, with a strong emphasis on safety, accuracy, and adherence to clinical procedures and professional appearance standards.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Scottsdale, AZ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.36/hr.
