Job Title: Executive Controls Engineer
Job Description
This role involves planning, designing, programming, and implementing PLC/HMI and PC-based control systems. Responsibilities include system design, PLC programming, PC programming (.Net), HMI programming, robot programming, machine vision, system commissioning, industrial communication network implementation, and installation. The engineer must understand project scope, goals, technical requirements, and balance client needs with project budget and technical execution for successful outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Design control systems by interpreting customer-supplied control descriptions, conducting interviews with clients and owners, and analyzing system mechanical requirements.
- Program control systems for automated equipment, including work with PLCs, servo motion, robotics, and machine vision.
- Write structured, well-documented, bug-free programs aligned with company standards.
- Design intuitive, easy-to-navigate, aesthetically pleasing HMI interfaces.
- Collaborate with project team members to share programming responsibilities as required.
- Develop software to support thorough, systematic, in-house testing prior to on-site commissioning.
- Thoroughly test system software before client exposure.
- Interface with outside vendors for component selection, manufacturing, and assembly.
- Commission machines to meet customer quality and cycle time requirements, including testing and on-site startup.
- Ensure projects are delivered on-time, within scope, and budget.
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
Essential Skills
- Expert level PLC and PC programming skills.
- 5+ years of experience with automated equipment.
- Ability to quickly understand complex applications.
- Experience with Rockwell, Beckhoff, and Siemens PLCs.
- Ability to write complete PLC programs from front to end.
- Experience with industrial robots such as Fanuc, UR, ABB.
- AC and Servo motion control programming experience.
- Experience with barcode and RFID applications, software design, and machine vision.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Applicable engineering degree preferred; BS in engineering is ideal.
- Experience with data logging and strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and handle diverse assignments concurrently.
- Capability to work effectively with minimal oversight.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, typically 1-2 weeks per quarter.
Work Environment
The position is based in a manufacturing environment with occasional travel required. Remote work or working from home is possible part of the time. Dress code is casual, and the environment is dynamic, offering a variety of tasks each day.
