Sr. Electronic Design Engineer

Job Title: Electrical Engineer – Energy Products

About the Team

The Energy EE team designs the eyes, ears, and brains of Vehicles & Optimus charging systems and residential/industrial energy storage products, including Powerwall and Megapack.

What You’ll Do

• Design and develop digital and analog electronic PCBAs and system-level components for energy products.
• Own the entire lifecycle of circuit board electronics—from specification through design, prototyping, validation, and manufacturing.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, firmware, EMC, RF, design validation, thermal design, compliance, reliability, and manufacturing test engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop central processing boards, wireless/wired communication systems, and circuits for user and equipment safety.
• Design energy metering, thermal controls, and system-level components such as breakers, contactors, and pyrofuses.
• Ensure compliance with DFT and DFM for medium to high-volume production.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of relevant work experience in electronic design.
• Proficiency in:
  • DDR memory, Ethernet, signal integrity, PCB layout, bench validation, debug, scripting.
• Experience with:
  • DSPs, microcontrollers, or programmable logic devices.
  • Digital communication buses (CAN, Ethernet, RS-485, USB, SPI, I²C).
  • Analog sensors and signal conditioning circuits.
  • Board-level power supply design (buck, boost, flyback).
  • PCB layout optimization for thermal and EMC performance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in solar, energy storage, EV, or EV charging industries.
• Familiarity with battery management systems, power electronics, high-speed digital design, or RF.
• Experience developing digital and analog interfaces for test systems (LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python).

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Palo Alto, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $80.00/hr.
