Senior Digital Software Systems Engineer - Heart Failure Pleasanton, CA or Burlington, MA
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Senior Software Systems Engineer to be part of our DIGITAL SOFTWARE PROGRAMS product development team focused on delivering a wide range of Digital Health System products. We are building a product portfolio that implements end to end solutions in collecting data from devices implanted in patients, processing the data, and providing actionable insights for physicians and patients. This includes developing a scalable microservice based backend system, mobile applications, web portals, and data analysis tools.
Located at our Pleasanton, CA (preferred) or Burlington, MA, you will work with cross functional teams including Marketing, Systems and Clinical Engineering, Human Factors and User Experience, Regulatory and contribute to the building of Digital Software products. You will understand the high-level roadmaps and product requirements and drive the development of software system requirements. You will also provide critical input to the software systems architecture to create solutions that satisfy technical, schedule, and cost constraints. You will drive the creation of a prioritized backlog for the development teams.
You will be a key member of Abbott's product development team to bring systems from concept to launch. The software system you develop and maintain will save and extend the lives of Heart Failure patients.

The base pay for this position is $83,600.00 - $167,200.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with cross functional teams to understand the software's role in the success of current and future projects.
- Contribute to all phases of product development including project definition/scoping, planning, design, and implementation.
- Apply skills to planning the product development, capturing requirements, designing solutions, defining behaviors, investigating issues, evaluating trade-offs, and validating output. Develop and apply an expert understanding of designated systems and serve as a subject matter expert for the development team.
- Create, update, and maintain feature specifications and use cases that lead to the definition of software requirements for multiple ongoing projects.
- Lead requirements definition of a large portion of the software and drive them to completion while regularly interfacing with cross functional teams to obtain alignment on software requirements. Lead cross functional reviews of work output.
- Provide input to the creation of the software architecture and detailed design and review the out put to ensure the design meets the requirements.
- Drive Software Failure Mode Analysis activities and the development of risk mitigation requirements.
- Capture the traceability between software design inputs, architectural components, and subsystem requirements, to ensure design meets expectations.
- Mentor & coach junior engineers on requirements analysis, requirements definition, software process and medical device regulations.
- Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Computer, Software, Electrical), Computer Science with 6+ years of experience in developing highly engineered systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (MS with 4 years, or PhD with 2 years).
- Familiarity with the entire SDLC including proficient use of systems engineering tools (e.g. requirements management, change control, etc.).
- Proven experience in designing and engineering solutions to meet user needs.
- 3+ years of experience in eliciting and developing software requirements for mobile applications, web applications and microservices in a Cloud environment.
- Experience in Risk Management activities. Experience with ISO 14971 is a plus.
- Software engineering experience within a rigid development and configuration management process, preferably Agile using JIRA and GIT.
- Ability to plan for project deliverables and to help manage the project team towards meeting schedule and cost, as well as delivering product of high quality.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate technical solutions and issues clearly and adequately to management as well as members on the project.
- Experience in leading project teams in a project leadership role.
- Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities and tasks.
- Advanced Degree in Engineering (Computer, Electrical, Software), Computer Science, or related discipline with 8+ years of work experience.
- Medical device experience, specifically supporting heart failure and/or cardiovascular systems.
- Experience in developing and managing Cloud based solutions in Azure
- Experience in creating data analysis tools and machine learning concepts
- Experience in programming languages such as C, C++, Java and Python.
- Experience with unit- and integration-level testing and automated testing.
- Experience in leading project teams in a project leadership role.
- Experience with cybersecurity in a cloud environment and mobile/web applications (threat modeling/CSRA or digital signing preferred).
