Job Description
The Quality Manager leads quality assurance and supplier development activities to ensure that all supplied and manufactured products meet stringent quality standards and regulatory requirements. This role oversees supplier audits, incoming inspection, first article inspection, and quality assurance laboratory operations while driving continuous improvement initiatives across internal operations and the supplier network. The Quality Manager provides strategic leadership to quality and supplier development teams, promotes a culture of quality and accountability, and supports the organization in achieving and maintaining ISO 9001 certification.
Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site supplier audits to assess quality systems, process capability, and risk levels prior to supplier approval.
- Ensure supplier compliance with ISO 9001 and internal supplier quality requirements.
- Lead ongoing supplier audits focused on process capability, performance metrics, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain supplier scorecards and communicate results through structured quarterly performance reviews.
- Drive corrective action follow-up with suppliers and monitor the effectiveness of implemented improvements.
- Manage and continuously improve incoming inspection procedures, standards, and documentation.
- Define sampling plans, inspection frequencies, and acceptance criteria for incoming materials and components.
- Oversee inspection records, calibration activities, and the control and maintenance of inspection equipment.
- Maintain and enhance first article inspection (FAI) procedures to validate new or modified parts and supplier processes.
- Review supplier-submitted FAIs for completeness, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Procurement to ensure product readiness and approval prior to production release.
- Oversee all Quality Assurance Laboratory activities, including material testing, dimensional testing, calibration, and data reporting.
- Validate testing methods in collaboration with vendors to ensure compliance with internal and customer standards.
- Analyze and report quality trends based on laboratory data and supplier performance metrics.
- Establish and maintain process control methodologies, including SPC, Cp/Cpk, PFMEA, and Control Plans, across supplier operations.
- Lead process validation and capability studies with suppliers for new and existing production processes.
- Support suppliers in implementing robust process controls and mistake-proofing techniques to improve quality and reduce defects.
- Lead cross-functional projects to improve quality, reduce waste, and optimize processes using Lean and Six Sigma tools.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives across internal operations and the supplier network.
- Identify cost-of-quality opportunities and execute strategies to reduce quality-related costs.
- Lead the organization through ISO 9001:2015 re-certification activities and ongoing compliance efforts.
- Investigate internal and field product issues arising from warranty claims and other quality concerns.
- Facilitate root cause analysis using methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, and Ishikawa diagrams, and implement permanent corrective and preventive actions with suppliers.
- Collaborate closely with suppliers and customers to ensure effective and timely resolution of product issues.
- Provide leadership to Quality Assurance and Supplier Development teams, setting direction and aligning activities with organizational goals.
- Mentor team members on root cause analysis, audit techniques, and data-based decision-making to support professional development.
- Outline clear performance objectives for team members and ensure their thorough and timely completion.
- Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to team members to enhance performance and engagement.
- Carry out managerial responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
- Promote a culture of quality awareness, ownership, and accountability across all departments.
Essential Skills
- Extensive experience in quality assurance within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding in supplier quality and supplier development in manufacturing.
- Hands-on experience conducting supplier audits and assessing process capability.
- Deep knowledge of quality management systems and standards, including ISO 9001.
- Ability to interpret and apply quality system requirements and supplier quality requirements.
- Proficiency in process control methodologies such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), Cp/Cpk, PFMEA, and Control Plans.
- Demonstrated ability to lead process validation and capability studies for production processes.
- Strong skills in root cause analysis using 8D, 5 Why, and Ishikawa methods.
- Experience managing incoming inspection processes, including sampling plans, inspection frequencies, and acceptance criteria.
- Capability to oversee calibration programs and the control of inspection and testing equipment.
- Experience managing and improving first article inspection (FAI) procedures and reviewing supplier FAIs.
- Ability to analyze laboratory and supplier data to identify quality trends and improvement opportunities.
- Leadership experience guiding quality and supplier development teams.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with suppliers, internal teams, and customers.
- Ability to travel, including internationally, at least 50% of the time.
- Possession of a valid passport.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in Quality and/or Supplier Development within a manufacturing environment.
- Manufacturing experience is required.
- Proven experience working with quality systems such as ISO 9001; experience with IATF standards is preferred.
- Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma tools to drive process improvement and waste reduction.
- Experience in quality assurance, including PPAP and supplier quality processes.
- Ability to mentor and develop team members in quality tools, audit techniques, and data-driven decision-making.
- Experience establishing and maintaining supplier scorecards and performance metrics.
- Ability to lead ISO 9001:2015 re-certification efforts and maintain ongoing compliance.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to set clear performance objectives and manage multiple priorities.
Work Environment
This role operates within a manufacturing-focused environment that emphasizes high quality standards, robust supplier partnerships, and continuous improvement. The Quality Manager regularly collaborates with cross-functional teams such as Engineering, Procurement, and Operations, as well as with external suppliers and testing vendors. The position involves frequent on-site supplier visits and audits, including international travel of at least 50% of the time, to assess quality systems, process capability, and compliance. Work is performed in a mix of office, laboratory, and manufacturing floor settings, with routine interaction with inspection and testing equipment, calibration tools, and quality data systems. The environment supports a culture of quality awareness, accountability, and data-driven decision-making, with a strong focus on maintaining and improving ISO 9001 certification and overall supplier performance.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Torrance, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $170000.00/yr.

The Supplier Development and Quality Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining an advanced quality and supplier development system that ensures reliable product quality and continuous improvement across internal operations and the supply base.
