Job Title: Civil Engineer Water Design

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Civil Engineer to lead and manage infrastructure projects focused on water and wastewater systems. This role involves overseeing project design and delivery, supervising engineering staff, coordinating with external agencies, and contributing to long-term capital improvement planning. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, leadership experience, and a commitment to public service. A Professional Civil Engineer license and relevant experience in project management and team supervision are required.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage infrastructure projects focused on water and wastewater systems.
  • Oversee project design and delivery.
  • Supervise and mentor engineering staff.
  • Coordinate with external agencies for project execution.
  • Contribute to long-term capital improvement planning.

Essential Skills

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in California.
  • 4+ years of experience in civil engineering, including project management and supervisory responsibilities.
  • Technical expertise in water and wastewater system design and construction.
  • Ability to manage budgets, timelines, and resources across multiple projects.
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring engineering staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to assess infrastructure needs and develop effective engineering solutions.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes and compliance standards.
  • Experience with engineering design tools and project management platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, Trimble Unity, Workday).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Preferably, a Professional Engineer license.
  • Experience with stormwater, land development, and water treatment.
  • Valid California driver's license or ability to obtain one.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily office-based with occasional site visits required to inspect projects or meet with contractors. You will work in a collaborative team setting with other engineers, technicians, city staff, and external agencies. Flexible schedule options include 9/80 or 4/10 workweeks, with potential for hybrid (remote/in-office) work depending on department approval. The environment is professional and mission-driven, focusing on serving the public, improving infrastructure, and supporting community development. Technology is enabled with tools like Trimble Unity and Workday for project management and efficiency.
