Description: FULLY REMOTE

Under the direction of the PFS manager (defined below by region), the Commercial Collections Representative II is responsible for performing insurance liability collection and accounts receivable activities for commercial accounts (PPO, HMO, POS, Managed Medicare/Medicaid, etc.) to ensure the timely receipt of insurance liabilities for hospital services. This individual follows up on accounts regularly to verify timely receipt of claim, check claim status, submit required documentation, and track overall claim processing. In addition, this individual identifies functional issues and barriers and reports them to the PFS manager.

Essential Functions:

1. Complete and independently manage account follow-up based on preset follow-up guidelines defined by payor type and account balance:

I. Verify claim is received by commercial payor timely in accordance with the timely filing limits of the contractual agreement and/or state or federal regulations.

II. Monitor accounts receivable daily through worklists and check claim status through payor claims department or online to ensure proper claims processing.

III. Complete periodic payor phone calls to confirm claim status and drive claim resolution as dictated by department collections policies.

IV. Document follow-up activity or pertinent notes (e.g., date of receipt, reference number) within the system of record to track and record overall claim process history.

V. Obtain and submit any necessary documentation to support claim processing if required by the contractual agreement, payor guidelines, or state or federal law.

VI. Report any critical account issues or barriers in the collections process to the Co-Op PFS Manager.

VII. Trend and document ongoing payor issues and notify PFS management.

2. Ensure that all activities related to hospital collection functions meet department requirements, maximize revenue collection, and achieve leading practice levels of performance.

3. Daily focus on attaining productivity standards, recommending new approaches for enhancing performance, and productivity when appropriate.

4. Assist Commercial Collections Representative I staff with daily account questions, issues, or barriers as necessary

5. Act as a knowledgeable resource on commercial collections functions for department staff. (e.g., answer account questions, assist with new staff training, etc.)

1. Review own work for accuracy and completeness prior to end of shift.

2. Meet productivity and quality goals/standards.

3. Adhere to state and federal regulations.

4. Identify and alert a member of the management staff of any situation that may negatively impact the patient, department operations, public relations, or the hospital's integrity.

5. Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

1. Ten-key touch required.

2. Ability to type 45 WPM.

3. Effective written and verbal communication skills.

4. Knowledge of computer software programs and use of basic office equipment required.

5. Analytical and problem-solving skills required.

6. Quantitative skills required. Ability to calculate expected reimbursement based on contract rates or fee schedules.

7. Knowledge of state and federal regulations that govern commercial plans

8. Knowledge of medical terminology, UB-04 claim form, 835 transaction code set, and familiarity with CPT and ICD-9 coding.

9. Experience in medical management computer applications.

Experience: 3 or more of health care business office experience or related field preferred.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

1. 5 years of collections experience and medical terminology preferred.

2. Bilingual English/Spanish.

Compensation is tied to the Colorado market for jobs

performed in Colorado. Other locations may be subject to variances based on locations-related factors.
