One of the world's leading power companies, generating and distributing electric power in 15 countries is seeking an Environmental Compliance Permitting Specialist. The Environmental Compliance Specialist will be overseeing and managing all EH&S compliance and permitting at a local Power Plant in the South Bay.


  • Assure site compliance with all aspects of agency and government regulations.
  • Provide expert Hazardous Materials Compliance advice and expertise to the AES Southland team.
  • Provide plant personnel with compliance guidance and training.
  • Prepare monthly, semi-annual and annual monitoring air quality, water quality and hazardous waste reports to various agencies including the California Air Resources Board, South Coast Air Quality Management District, US EPA, State and Regional Water Quality Control Board, local Certified Unified Program Agencies (CUPA)
  • Report on and provide management direction for the mitigation and correction of environmental deficiencies or excursions.
  • Ensure all permits are current and accurate.
  • Develop and track site specific budgets
  • Coordinate required sampling and analysis per permits.
  • Provide guidance for the management of, and ensure compliance with, all testing.
  • Submit all agency required reports, plans, and procedures timely and accurately.
  • Implement and ensure accuracy of the corporate EMS.
  • Assist in both internal and external audits as required.
  • Assist in the planning and integration of the Southland Repower projects.
  • They will have to help out with day to day of all types of compliance so they have to have a broad understanding of all aspects, not just hazardous materials.
  • This person has to act as a manager- has to be able to do a liaison role doing inspections, audits, and working with agencies.
  • They are helping build and maintain relationships with agencies. Making sure they are following compliance calendar, the other coordinators will train them on how to work with their clients.


Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in progressively responsible and diverse positions in environmental compliance and regulatory audits or demonstrate exceptional knowledge of local environmental regulations with the desire to be a leader in their field.
  • Experience in the power generation industry a plus. Agency compliance reporting experience highly desirable
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related engineering or scientific discipline required
  • Ability to work under pressure within strict deadlines and while managing multiple priorities
  • Strong working knowledge of air quality practices, NPDES and waste regulations
  • Detail oriented; ability to read, analyze and interpret environmental regulations.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project).

Salary Range: $110,000 - $135,000. Negotiable based upon experience

Work Schedule: Normal 40hr work week. Ability to work a hybrid remote/onsite schedule
