Contributes electrical, optoelectrical, thermal and electromechanical knowledge to the design of IVD medical device instruments. Ability to design, develop, prototype, transfer, and troubleshoot complex designs as both modular or system level devices. Manages external relationships with contract manufacturers to ensure that robust and reliable systems are developed and documented. Experience with POC IVD instrumentation designed for use in CLIA waived environments, and associated use case requirements. Possesses strong scientific analytical skills. Independently designs, executes and interpret complex experiments and analytical procedures to address specific R&D related objectives. Develop and manage project plans including key deliverables, timelines, and budgets for electrical subsystems. Understanding of FDA 510k and CLIA waiver process, experience in writing required design control documentation, and verification and validation

protocols and reports.

• Manage projects with external partners (PCBA layout/fab houses, EMC testing, contract manufacturers)

• Design and test electrical, optoelectrical, and thermal subsystems

• Design and simulate circuits for custom PCBA’s

• Create schematics and perform board layouts in Altium

• Write firmware as required (for instruments and test fixtures)

• Design PCBA/optoelectronic test fixtures

• Cost engineering: optimize prototype designs for cost, reliability, and manufacturability

• Document electrical system designs in accordance with QSR requirements

• Report results, timelines, etc. in oral and written formats

• Make technical recommendations to the team, responsible for compliance to requirements, participate in design reviews, assure quality of the design

• Analyzes requirements, identifies concepts, architectural solutions, and system design to meet project needs (technical, schedule, budget, product cost)

• Serve as Integration and Test Lead for Electro Optical systems ranging from early concepts to product prototypes to initial production units

• Create module level requirements derived from performance, detection and marketing inputs

Education / Experience:

• BS and at least 5+ years of electrical engineering experience developing electronics for Class II/III medical devices for use in the IVD POC environment

• IVD design and development experience following design control regulations: FDA CFR 820 and ISO 9001

• Quality Systems and QSR compliance and associated documentation

 Skills / Pre-requisites:

• Programming in C/C++ for embedded environments preferred

• FPGA and/or microcontroller experience required

• Optical system experience (CCD, PDA, Photodiode, etc.)

• Strong understanding of control theory and its practical application to open/closed loops, PID’s, etc.

• Motor and motor driver selection and integration (stepper, encoders)

• Altium

• Good work ethic, team player

• Experience with schematics, component data sheets and electronic test equipment

• Proven track record of implementing and analyzing electronic and embedded solutions including ability to perform electronic design calculations

• Proficient in developing test plans, protocols/test scripts, result reports
