Job Description

The Buyer (Commodity/Category Manager) will be responsible for developing and implementing procurement strategies that align with the company’s goals. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, excellent negotiation abilities, and a deep understanding of market dynamics. Experience in supporting diesel engines is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute sourcing strategies to meet the company’s procurement needs, focusing on cost reduction, quality improvement, and supplier reliability.
• Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with key suppliers to ensure the best possible terms and performance.
• Conduct thorough market research and analysis to stay informed about industry trends, pricing, and emerging suppliers.
• Lead complex negotiations with suppliers to secure favorable terms, pricing, and contracts.
• Identify and mitigate risks in the supply chain to ensure continuity and reliability.
• Continuously seek opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements within the procurement process.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, and finance, to align procurement strategies with business objectives.
• Prepare and present regular reports on procurement activities, cost savings, supplier performance, and market trends.

Essential Skills

• 5-8 years of manufacturing strategic buying experience/Commodity or Category Manager.
• Experienced with high-level negotiations.
• Supplier experience vs. customer experience.
• Category risk management.
• LEAN & mechanical experience MRP, planning, buying experience.
• Data entry, ERP (SAP, Oracle, Epicor).
• Strong negotiation skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in the automotive industry is extremely helpful.
• Experience with engines and compressors commodities.
• Ability to travel up to 25%.
• Experience sourcing for new customers and best options.

Work Environment
