Job Title: Pharmacy Technician - Washington, D.C.

Job Description

• Assists the Pharmacist in preparing and distributing medications to patients. Performs designated technical functions to facilitate pharmacy operations.
• Under the supervision of the licensed Pharmacist, prepares oral, topical, and all parenteral medications for dispensing to patients, including the selection, labeling, and packaging of appropriate pharmaceuticals using appropriate IV equipment, and filling of medication carts.
• Enters physician orders into the hospital computer system to update/edit patient profiles and charges.
• Assists patients, nurses, physicians, and others with medication order requests and pharmacy-related needs.
• Monitors stock inventory levels and medication expiration dates for pharmacy areas and replenishes medications as needed. Conducts monthly/periodic inspections of patient care/department areas.
• Fills and replaces medications in the automated medication dispensing machines and transports to appropriate nursing unit(s).
• Prepares IV admixtures using aseptic techniques, including STATS, parenteral nutrition bags, and cytotoxic agents.
• Delivers and retrieves medications, including narcotics, and pharmacy supplies to/from patient care and satellite pharmacy areas.
• Compounds products in bulk, or per individual order, and prepares private stock orders and individual unit-of-use packaging, when not otherwise available.
• Completes and maintains controlled substance inventory log/records.
• Effectively performs all pharmacy technician duties in all pharmacy locations including the OR pharmacy. Assists the tenured Pharmacy Technician in orienting new Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician students.
• Maintains clean and orderly workstations.

Hard Skills

• DC Pharmacy Technician License Required
• Must have at least 1 year of pharmacy technician experience
• Hospital Experience preferred but not required

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Washington, District of Columbia.

Work Environment

This is a hospital setting working Monday-Friday and every other weekend.
