Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop control system architectures for Material Handling equipment and robotic applications.
- Design, program, and troubleshoot PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and motion control systems.
- Develop and optimize control algorithms for robotic movements, safety features, and precision tasks.
- Integrate sensors, actuators, and communication protocols to enhance robotic performance.
- Conduct system testing, validation, and commissioning to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
- Provide technical support to field service teams during installation and maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in controls engineering.
- Complete the commissioning of complex systems that integrate hardware and software.
- Understand schematics and control panels, translating conceptual designs into practical engineering solutions.
- Provide recommendations for productivity improvement, cost reduction, and enhanced customer satisfaction.
- Utilize best practices in writing PLC programs.
- Guide complex technical interchange and knowledge transfer related to system design and product application.
- Apply advanced skills to resolve complex problems not covered by existing procedures, developing innovative solutions.
- Display critical thinking in resolving high-impact, complex, and cross-functional problems.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Rockwell).
- Ability to design, program, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and motion control systems.
- Experience in programming and creating PLC systems from scratch.
- 2+ years of experience with functional safety (GuardLogix, etc.).
- 1+ year of warehouse automation experience.
- Experience with IO-Link (1+ years).
- 7+ years of experience in controls engineering.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or comparable engineering degree.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in material handling preferred or working as a system controls integrator.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% of the year for project demands, providing onsite support and engaging effectively with customers.
- Experience with writing functional safety programming (5+ years).
Work Environment
The role is based in an on-site office and engineering space with business casual attire. The standard working hours are from 9am to 5pm, with additional hours likely available.
