Position Overview
As an Entry-Level Sheet Metal Technician / HVAC Assistant, you will gain hands-on experience working with HVAC systems, sheet metal fabrication, and basic plumbing support. This role is designed to introduce you to multiple mechanical building systems while allowing you to explore and develop a long-term trade specialization.
This position includes both shop-based work and occasional job site assignments under the guidance of experienced technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with HVAC, sheet metal, and plumbing-related tasks in the shop and on job sites
- Learn how ductwork, ventilation systems, piping, and fittings are measured, cut, and installed
- Safely use hand tools and power tools under supervision
- Read and learn basic blueprints, drawings, and layouts
- Support skilled tradespeople with material handling, staging, and setup
- Follow all safety procedures and job site best practices
- Contribute to a clean, organized, and efficient work environment
Each day provides opportunities to learn new skills while building a solid foundation in the mechanical trades.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Basic math skills, including fractions, measurements, and decimals
- Willingness to learn technical and trade-related skills
- Comfort using hand and power tools, or a strong interest in learning
Preferred (Not Required)
- Previous construction or mechanical experience
- Exposure to HVAC, plumbing, or sheet metal work
- Experience with blueprints, fabrication, riveting, or similar tasks
No prior HVAC or sheet metal experience is required. We are committed to training individuals with the right attitude and work ethic.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ames, IA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
