Job Description

This position provides onsite management for the implementation of large-scale construction projects. Responsibilities include overseeing contractor evaluation and selection, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, engineering, and environmental standards, and tracking project progress against schedules. The role requires regular status reporting to management and customers, and the implementation of processes in a timely, cost-effective, and environmentally conscious manner.

Responsibilities

• Manage field personnel to monitor daily activities and provide oversight to contractors and subcontractors.
• Identify construction specification errors and ensure construction complies with contract specifications and applicable codes.
• Promote and enforce safety policies and procedures, investigate accidents and safety incidents, and communicate safety information to management.
• Administer and monitor safety programs, perform safety assessments, and promote safety culture.
• Utilize quality control and quality assurance processes to improve performance measures and standards.
• Communicate construction progress related to safety, production, risk, schedule, finance, and quality to stakeholders.
• Coordinate with external contractors, equipment manufacturers, and support site permitting, equipment selection, and project design specifications.
• Provide onsite contractor interface, local government interface, and community relations.
• Develop project Punch List and ensure completion, validate milestones for payment, and resolve field problems.
• Ensure the quality of construction through continuous monitoring of QC processes.
• Supervise professional, non-exempt, bargaining unit employees, and contractors engaged in renewable site construction activities.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• 8 years of professional experience in construction-related positions.
• 3 years of supervisory experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Project management skills with experience in managing construction projects.
• Knowledge of safety rules and applicable building codes.
• Knowledge of construction standards, work methods, equipment, maintenance practices, and materials.
• Ability to read and understand maps, plans, profiles, and drawings.
• Management skills.
• Financial skills such as developing a budget and interpreting financial reports.
• Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in computer software programs (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheet, project management).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in large electric construction, gas and electric operations, project management, or related area.
• Experience working with labor union management preferred.

Work Environment

This is an onsite position located in Cedar Rapids, with an expectation of working 50 hours per week. The work involves managing construction at a generation station.
