Job Title: Experienced Demolition Laborers
Job Description
This role focuses on supporting interior and exterior demolition projects by performing general site cleanup, material handling, and physical labor in a construction environment. You will work closely with a crew to remove debris, transport materials, and help maintain a safe and orderly job site while following established procedures and schedules.
Responsibilities
- Perform general interior and exterior site cleanup after demolition work has been completed, ensuring work areas remain safe and orderly.
- Load broken concrete and other debris into wheelbarrows and transport materials to designated dumpsters or disposal areas.
- Haul, dispose of, and organize materials in dumpsters or other waste containers according to site requirements.
- Carry out general site cleaning tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, and removing debris throughout the workday.
- Support interior and structural demolition activities by assisting crews with manual labor as directed by the foreman.
- Use wheelbarrows and other basic tools to move, lift, and position materials safely and efficiently.
- Arrive at the shop each morning by 6:45 a.m., join assigned crews, and travel with the team to the job site.
- Work on multiple job sites over time, adapting to different project locations and needs while maintaining consistent performance.
- Participate in daily team formations of 5–8 people and follow the foreman’s instructions for tasks, safety practices, and site procedures.
- Load equipment and materials onto trucks at the end of each day and return to the shop with the crew.
- Work extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, and Saturdays as needed, based on project volume and schedules.
- Follow all safety guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment provided on site.
- Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality, understanding that consistent on-time arrival is a critical requirement for continued employment.
- Support occasional out-of-town and overnight projects when needed, including adhering to travel and lodging arrangements provided.
Essential Skills
- At least 6 months of experience in construction, demolition, physical labor, landscaping, or a similar labor-intensive role.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds when required.
- Ability to work upright and on your feet in outdoor and indoor elements for 8–12 hours per day.
- Willingness and availability to work Monday through Friday with early start times, and to work Saturdays as needed.
- Ability to arrive at the shop by 6:45 a.m. (or 7:00 a.m. where specified) each workday to join the crew and depart for job sites.
- Comfort working in demolition, construction, and cleanup environments, including handling debris and heavy materials.
- Reliability and strong attendance, with a proven ability to show up on time and ready to work every scheduled day.
- Physical stamina and endurance to perform repetitive lifting, carrying, sweeping, and other manual tasks for extended periods.
- Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and changing job site environments.
- Ability to follow instructions from a foreman and work effectively within a crew of 5–8 people.
- Ownership of steel-toe boots suitable for construction and demolition work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience in demolition, construction, landscaping, or general labor roles.
- Experience using basic construction tools and equipment such as wheelbarrows and brooms.
- Flexibility to work extended hours, including potential shifts from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., depending on project needs.
- Openness to occasional out-of-town and overnight travel for projects, with the ability to plan around family or personal commitments when given notice.
- Comfort working on multiple projects and job sites, transitioning between locations as workload and schedules change.
- Ability to maintain a professional and safety-focused attitude in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.

Work Environment
You work for a leading demolition and environmental remediation firm that delivers turnkey services on projects of varying size across Iowa and surrounding areas. Most work is local, though some projects require travel to locations such as Riverside, Cedar Rapids, and Tama, with occasional overnight stays supported by hotel accommodations and per diem. Each workday begins at the shop, where you arrive by 6:45 a.m., join a crew of 5–8 people, and travel together with a foreman to the job site. You may work on one job for a week and then move to another, always starting and ending the day at the office. Typical hours run from early morning (around 7:00 a.m.) to late afternoon or early evening, with the possibility of working as late as 7:00 p.m. and frequent Saturday work, especially during busy periods. The environment is physically demanding and hands-on, involving interior and structural demolition, debris removal, sweeping, and general cleanup in both indoor and outdoor conditions. The company provides all required personal protective equipment based on the job site, while you supply your own steel-toe boots and wear jeans with a work-appropriate shirt; cut-off T-shirts are not allowed. Crews depart promptly by 7:00 a.m., and anyone arriving late or without appropriate footwear may be sent home, underscoring the importance of punctuality and readiness in this structured, safety-conscious work setting.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Des Moines, IA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $16.00 - $16.00/hr.
