Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Buyer to manage the purchase of production materials and general operation needs. The successful candidate will develop and implement cost reduction and sourcing strategies that lead to improved quality and timely delivery performance. This role involves providing detailed purchase orders to vendors to procure approved materials conforming to industry codes for shell and tube heat exchangers and pressure vessels.
Responsibilities
- Manage procurement activities and determine material quantities required based on bill of materials, ensuring accuracy based on drawings.
- Create and manage purchase orders utilizing Computer Ease, assigning job numbers, primary cost codes, and actual costs for each material.
- Assign material delivery dates on purchase orders and ensure delivery aligns with production schedules.
- Negotiate with vendors to create cost efficiencies and establish robust vendor relationships.
- Create requests for quotes from a minimum of three vendors and evaluate stock run needs with manufacturing.
- Update bill of materials on the shared drive with purchase order numbers, due dates, and stock material identifiers.
- Maintain material traceability by copying purchase orders to job files.
- Create purchase orders for goods and services rendered, including machining materials and trucking finished projects.
- Assure supply chain sources meet and exceed quality expectations, on-time delivery, and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Seek and select reliable vendors to provide quality materials at reasonable prices and maintain vendor performance scorecards.
- Communicate directly with vendors and internally with all departments.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in procurement, supply chain, purchasing, and inventory management.
- Strong skills in logistics and negotiation.
- Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Business degree or a minimum of three years of experience in manufacturing planning, procurement, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong negotiation skills and knowledge of negotiation strategies.
Work Environment
This role requires working on-site from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with some flexibility for appointments and personal commitments.
