Argonne National Laboratory is in search of a Department Head for the Office of Emergency Management. This person is responsible for the development, implementation, administration, management, coordination, and maintenance of Argonne`s All-Hazards Emergency Management program. Requires the ability to apply analytical thinking with demonstrated talent for identifying, scrutinizing, improving, and streamlining complex work processes. Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Position Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in emergency management planning, preparedness, response, and readiness assurance activities.
- Understanding of hazardous material risks and consequence mitigation strategies.
- Leadership skills - performed independently and as part of a strategic team.
- Results-driven achiever with exemplary planning and organizational skills, along with a high degree of detail orientation.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills as well as the ability to listen and effectively convey information.
- Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction.
- Ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of technical, professional and management personnel.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including database, spreadsheet, and word processing applications.
- Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management or related degree.
- Participating as a member of the Laboratory's Emergency Management Team on a rotational basis that may include working for extended hours or during nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Bachelor's and 5-10+ years of experience, Master's preferred.
- To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract and able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance.
- Must maintain all training qualifications.
- Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
- National Incident Management System ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 certifications.
- Master's Degree in Emergency Management, Environmental Science, Industrial Risk Management, or a related advanced degree.
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative hazardous materials risk and consequence assessment techniques.
- Experience with security risk assessment and/or vulnerability assessment methodologies.
- Knowledge of integrated emergency management programs and practices from the perspective of federal, state, or local operations, including application to major nuclear facilities and/or hazardous material sites. This level of knowledge and skill are usually acquired through formal education, as specified above, and through previous experience in Emergency Management or Emergency Response.
- Applied knowledge of emergency management laws, regulations, DOE Orders and associated guidance including, but not limited to DOE O 151.1D Comprehensive Emergency Management System, DOE O 150.1B Continuity Programs, DOE O 470.3B Design Basis Threat (DBT) Policy, Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA)
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or Certified Emergency Manager (CEM).
