Job Description
The Pharmacy Technician III plays a crucial role in supporting pharmacists by managing drug therapy orders, interpreting and dispensing prescriptions, and maintaining patient and pharmacy records. This position collaborates with leads and team members to resolve issues and complete project tasks, while being a subject matter expert in all pharmacy operations.
Responsibilities
- Assist the pharmacist with pharmacy practice in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as HIPAA guidelines and corporate policies.
- Accurately interpret healthcare provider’s prescription orders and enter them into the core pharmacy system.
- Notify physicians of incomplete or incorrect prescription information and perform physician outreach when necessary.
- Assist the pharmacist in obtaining accurate verbal orders for product replacement and missing prescription information from healthcare providers.
- Manage patient adherence process and schedule medication deliveries according to guidelines.
- Assist patients with treatment compliance by updating medications, allergies, and medical conditions, and triage calls to Nursing or Pharmacists when necessary.
- Use internal and web tools to communicate with health insurance payors and providers to investigate benefits and verify prescription coverage.
- Identify and recommend process and system improvements to enhance pharmacy operations.
- Interact professionally with internal and external teams to ensure accurate service provision to patients.
- Collaborate with necessary personnel to support patients, products, or services by handling calls, prioritizing work, and performing testing as needed.
- Maintain current Illinois Certified Pharmacy Technician licensure and continuing education requirements.
- Pharmacy Technician certification and license.
- Strong attention to detail, multitasking ability, and professionalism.
- Experience in a high-volume, call-center-style environment.
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Specialty Pharmacy, Retail/Mail Order Pharmacy, PBM, or healthcare provider setting.
- Familiarity with medical record handling, prescription data entry, and customer service.
- Strong core insurance knowledge and experience with online verification systems.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with healthcare professionals.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, with accurate data entry skills.
- Experience in retail pharmacy is acceptable.
- Ability to handle 30–40 calls/day with efficient wrap-up and movement to the next call.
- Comfortable with flexible work schedule between 7am and 7pm.
- Capability to complete individual tasks and manage time effectively.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician license in the state of IL preferred.
This is a dynamic position with the opportunity for extension and potential permanency. The work is conducted in a pharmacy space at the North Chicago headquarters. The environment is high-volume and call-center-style, requiring a professional demeanor and strong communication skills. The position requires flexibility in working hours, between 7am and 7pm.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of North Chicago, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
