Medical Technologist

Description:

Position Responsibilities: 1st shift, 7am-4pm

Performs Laboratory Testing:

Labels and processes specimens.

Performs all laboratory procedures with minimal supervision.

Quality Control and Preventative Maintenance:

Performs required QC procedures and preventative maintenance, including corrective action and documentation, for all procedures and instrumentation.

Recognizes discrepancies and attempts to determine the cause of problem.

Notifies appropriate supervisor regarding QC problems or discrepancies according to the established procedure.

Troubleshooting:

Basic troubleshooting of equipment and processes with minimal assistance, documents action and notifies appropriate personnel. 

Organization of Work Area:

Disinfects area at the start and end of each shift.

Specimen Acceptability:

Will not accept inappropriate specimens.

Notifies appropriate person of specimens that must be drawn or collected again and documents the notification.

Turnaround Time Expectations:

Prioritize the workload for the shift. Ensure turnaround time of all samples.

Special Projects:

Method evaluations and new procedure development or other special projects.

Participates in procedure implementation and training. Identify and participate in process improvement projects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience in relevant science required

ASCP Certification (or eligible)
