Job Title: Drum Filler
Job Description
The Drum Filler is responsible for safely and accurately filling returnable drums in accordance with customer and company specifications in a chemical manufacturing environment. This role includes inspecting drums and equipment, operating filling processes and forklifts, performing real-time reporting, and maintaining a clean and safe work area. The position requires close attention to detail, adherence to documented procedures, and collaboration with production leadership and team members.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with all team members to support efficient and safe production operations.
- Inspect returnable drums for damage prior to filling and promptly report any damaged drums to production leadership.
- Fill returnable drums in accordance with documented procedures (such as MS 8.5/3-82) and customer specifications.
- Run the filling and related processes to maximize product quality and production output.
- Keep the assigned work area, equipment, and surrounding spaces clean, orderly, and free of debris.
- Ensure all required safety apparatus and protective devices are in place and used correctly before and during operations.
- Perform real-time reporting in SAP and accurately complete daily production reports.
- Inform production leadership of any safety, quality, or maintenance concerns as they arise.
- Verify magna press seals are free of defects prior to use and confirm that air valves are functioning properly.
- Perform cartridge filling duties as needed in accordance with documented procedures (such as MS 8.5/3-46, Uhlhorn only).
- Pull plates from expired drums and handle materials according to established guidelines.
- Operate a forklift safely to move drums, materials, and products as required.
- Handle mixing, batching, compounding, blending, and general chemical handling tasks as part of batch production processes, when assigned.
- Load and unload materials and products as part of general labor and production activities.
- Clean equipment, products, floors, and work areas as needed to maintain a safe and compliant environment.
- Stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, and move on and off a forklift throughout the shift to complete production tasks.
- Follow all safety, quality, and production procedures and participate in training as required.
Essential Skills
- 1–3 years of experience in manufacturing, production, or batch production.
- 1–3 years of experience in mixing, batching, compounding, chemical handling, blending, or machine operation.
- Ability to operate a forklift or willingness to obtain forklift certification through company-provided training.
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
- Comfort working in a chemical facility with strong odors.
- Ability to pass a skills key test.
- Ability to pass an audiogram test.
- Ability to perform repetitive overhead reaching, twisting, turning, pivoting, bending, crouching, and frequent walking.
- Ability to stand on feet for 8–10 hour shifts and frequently climb ladders and stairs.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English to follow procedures, documentation, and safety instructions.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior industrial cleaning or housekeeping experience.
- Prior mixing and batching experience in a manufacturing or chemical environment.
- Previous forklift experience.
- Experience in chemical manufacturing or handling chemical materials.
- Ability to pass an essential functions test (EFT), respirator fit test (RFT), and standard background and drug screening processes.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
- Willingness to work overtime and occasional mandatory weekends based on business needs.

Work Environment
This role is based in a chemical plant that produces predominantly automotive materials (approximately 98% automotive production) in a climate-controlled environment. Team members work around manufacturing operations that include moving equipment, noise, fumes, vibrations, dust, and strong odors. Reasonable accommodations are available to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. The position is contract-to-hire with a typical 90-day period. Available shift is 1st shift 7:00am–3:30pm Monday–Friday. Weekend work may be scheduled on Saturday and/or Sunday based on business needs, and mandatory weekends may be required. Overtime is posted weekly near timeclocks and may include Saturday only or both Saturday and Sunday. The physical environment requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, and material handling throughout 8–10 hour shifts. Required attire includes steel-toed shoes, and the company provides safety personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, respirators, gloves, and hearing protection.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.50 - $19.50/hr.
