Hiring a Quality Lab Technician!

Position Summary:

- Purpose of this role is to do quality testing on platelets confirming they are safe to go into patients. If there is bacteria detected they will call the hospital and recall the blood donation - if the blood was already infused into a patient the providers would be notified to put the patient on antibacterial medication ASAP.

Responsibilities:

- Performs and evaluates quality control testing on blood products using hematology analyzers, pH meters, and WBC counting technologies

- Accessions and packs blood donor sample tubes for infectious disease testing where applicable

- Process Red blood cells (RBC's) and platelets (PLTs) to be separated and manufactured using centrifuges

- Performs pathogen reduction production process on blood products and performs donor antigen testing and antibody titrations, as applicable

- Performs reconciliations, lot release and client sample release of infectious disease testing

Compliance testing:

- Conducts validation procedures to qualify new production processes

- Assists in annual revisions of procedures and proficiency testing for CAP surveys

- Maintains equipment by performing daily quality control and preventative maintenance

Volume:

- 35-60 products/donations

- 2nd & 3rd shift tend to have the highest volume

- Goal/measured to have <2.5% of samples be "manufacturing loss" (avoid mixing products and testing poorly and avoiding contaminating samples)

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Must Have:

- B.S. in Life Science degree (Biology, microbiology, biochemistry, etc)

Nice to have:

- 1-3 years of experience in a biology lab setting

- Internship/undergrad lab experience
