What You’ll Do
As a Protection & Control Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing and maintaining the systems that keep the power flowing safely and reliably:
- Design and develop substation protection and control systems for transmission, generation, and distribution infrastructure
- Specify and apply substation equipment (e.g., breakers, transformers, relay panels, capacitor/reactor banks, grounding systems)
- Create and implement protective relay schemes, SCADA systems, and metering designs
- Analyze system data (voltage, impedance, ampacity, CT ratios, relay settings) to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory bodies (SPP, NERC, FERC)
- Develop project scopes, budgets, and cost estimates to support multi-year capital planning
- Support field teams with troubleshooting, testing, failure analysis, and system improvements
- Review and produce detailed drawings, schematics, and design documentation
- Guide and mentor designers and technicians, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited)
- Experience in substation engineering, protection & control, or power delivery systems
- Strong understanding of:
- Relay protection schemes and system coordination
- Electrical schematics, wiring, and logic diagrams
- Transmission, generation, and distribution systems
- Working knowledge of SCADA systems and AutoCAD (or similar tools)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and clear communication abilities

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Topeka, KS.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $43.33 - $80.00/hr.
