Position Overview:

Research Associate/ Sr. Research Associate opportunities in the Assay Development Functional Group are available in Cambridge, MA. The Assay Development Functional Group includes three teams performing core functional roles in the discovery and development of agronomic solutions to control key above and below ground pests and pathogens of row crops, vegetables, and perennials. Opportunities in the microbial, plant and insect teams are available for self-motivated candidates that are comfortable working both independently and as an integral member of a team.

The successful candidate will be a key member of the Assay Development team, and will have a technical experience in plant and soil sciences or microbiology or entomology to design, develop, execute, and optimize high throughput screening assays and provide technical and scientific expertise to teams across the R&D organization. .

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, execute, and optimize a variety of lab-based assays targeted to discover and characterize the efficacy of new active ingredients and delivery systems

• Coordinate with team leads to complete work requests and manage multiple productionized assays that support projects across R&D

• Assist with analysis, visualization, and interpretation of assay data

• Work collaboratively across multiple functions to establish and refine assay quality

• Participate in regular scientific and one-on-one meetings with the broader R&D team to understand project needs, provide technical insight, and communicate status of ongoing work

• Write protocols and reports, document results in laboratory notebooks

• Contribute to a dynamic, exciting culture that embraces teamwork, innovation, and professional development

• Additional responsibilities and duties as assigned

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Experience & Credentials:

• Experienced in laboratory scale in-vitro assay implementation

Experience in development and execution of laboratory and/or greenhouse assays

• Hands-on experience with plant-, or bacterial/fungal- or insect-based assays and read outs, including one or more of the following:

o Quantitative or qualitative assessment of plant damage due to disease or insect pressure

o Monitoring of in vitro pathogen growth through spectroscopy and/or microscopy

o Image analysis

• Familiarity with systems and processes for quality management, process improvement and change control is preferred

• The ideal candidate:

o Is a critical, independent, and creative thinker

o Is professional, personable, organized, conscientious, and works well as a member of a team

o Can generate quantitative and qualitative data results for reports and presentations

• Preference will be given to scientists with the expertise summarized above, but we are willing to train exceptionally motivated individuals with strong analytical and communication skills
