Job Title: Oncology Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Description
Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices. Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding current status and medical history. Collect and record nursing assessments and interventions. Review and report the results of health status assessments and physical examinations, pertinent laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial assessments of assigned patients to the provider. Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and other instructional material. Provide psychosocial support to patients and families. Maintain patient confidentiality. Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician. Administer all medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time, and technique. Assure pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to the administration of therapies where applicable. Facilitate dose modification by assessing the patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management. Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central lines catheter devices. Maintain accurate documentation of assigned patient care and treatments provided. Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture. Maintain work environment by restocking supply area as needed, following OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste, and any other material potentially infected with a bloodborne pathogen. Maintain all disinfection protocols and equipment according to quality control standards. Facilitate clinical operations and patient care by managing patient medication refill requests, assisting physician with exams and procedures, maintaining efficient and appropriate patient flow in and out of exam rooms, facilitating and scheduling consultations, pre-testing, diagnostic tests or procedures, referrals, and future appointments for patients. Triage patient phone calls as needed and document relevant information in the patient's chart. Facilitate communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinate services related to patient care. Assist patients in locating available community resources. Assist and collaborate with clinical research. Act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants. Provide nursing coverage for the satellite offices as needed. Serve as mentor/preceptor and provide day-to-day guidance to less experienced staff. Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities.
Hard Skills
- 3-5 years nursing with at least 1 year in oncology with infusion
- RN MD license and current registration with state board
- Chemotherapy hanging experience required

Work Site
This is a fully on-site position in Brandywine, Maryland.
Work Environment
Will be required to float between Lanham and Brandywine. Typical Mon-Fri 7:30-4:30/8-5.
