Director, Compensation and Benefits

Emergent's Director Compensation and Benefits, reporting to the Chief HR Officer and a member of the HR leadership team, l eads the Company's global compensation and benefits function, strategy, and philosophy to effectively design, implement, and manage programs, policies, and initiatives. They are responsible for overseeing all aspects of compensation programs and benefits plans; this includes compensation, retirement, benefits, and wellness programs that attract and retain talent, optimize the workforce, and drive productivity and growth. They will lead the planning, implementation, and life-cycle management of employee programs that support the organization's strategic objectives. They will e ngage, develop, and manage compensation and benefits team members, enabling them to optimize their performance, development, and contribution.

Essential Functions:

  • Seek ways to simplify and automate existing processes and systems.
  • Ensure effective due diligence in the areas of total rewards to support corporate strategy.
  • Direct the preparation and maintenance of regular and special reports desired by management to assist in the attainment of corporate objectives.
  • Partner with the CHRO to design communication to increase perceived value of compensation and benefit programs and ensure appropriate understanding by employees.
  • Provide consultation to managers and HRBPs on total rewards strategy and policy interpretation.
  • Stay current on laws, regulations, and plan design trends, ensuring that the organization's policies and programs conform and are competitive and compliant.
  • Lead the integration of total rewards programs and platforms for acquired companies.
Compensation
  • Monitor the effectiveness of compensation plans and recommend revisions / improvements and new plans which are competitive, cost-effective, and consistent with industry trends.
  • Oversee the maintenance, salary survey participation, job evaluation, and establishment of salary structures, ensuring processes are in place to determine external and internal equity.
  • Review executive compensation programs, including short and long-term incentive plans, and stock option plans, to ensure consistency with company goals.
  • Support the CHRO in managing Compensation Committee agendas, material preparation and engagement of Committee's independent Compensation Consultant.
  • Design, develop and facilitate the implementation of global sales compensation plans and international compensation structures, in collaboration with HR business partners.
  • Consult with business clients to develop and execute local compensation solutions to meet the needs of daily operations and unique business situations.
Benefits

  • Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors and providers and ensure procedures are followed to minimize costs.
  • Oversee US open enrollment and global renewals, including employee communications.
  • Establish guidelines for employee eligibility for benefits; provide guidance regarding benefits costs, enrollment, and utilization; share data and trends with senior leadership.
  • Ensure benefits inquiries and issues are addressed in a prompt and complete manner.
Minimum Education, Experience, Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, or business-related field and or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in broad-based design and implementation of medical benefits and compensation programs for both exempt and non-exempt employees.
  • Experience working closely with the Compensation Committee of a publicly traded company
  • Proven ability to manage an internal team and work effectively with external consultants
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, and legislation that impacts total rewards.
  • Experience designing and maintaining long-term incentive programs.
  • Leadership skills balanced with a willingness to play a hands-on role with key projects.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills required to communicate effectively with all levels.
  • Ability to think strategically beyond immediate consequences, translate data into actionable insights, and identify and solve problems creatively.
  • Excellent planning, time management, decision-making, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to partner at the executive level and to build cross-functional relationships.
  • Ability to streamline processes and leverage systems to scale for growth.
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality regarding employee information.
  • Experience with total rewards in multiple countries preferred.
  • Experience supporting M&A activity related to total rewards strategy and programs is desired.

U.S. Base Pay Ranges and Benefits Information

The estimated annual base salary as a new hire for this position ranges from $181,000 - $219,000. Individual base pay depends on various factors such as applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location. Certain roles are eligible for additional incentive compensation, including merit increases, annual bonus, [and/or long-term incentives in the form of stock options.]
