Job Description
Join our Power Systems Division as a Power Electronics / Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Electronics Hardware and Controller Design and Testing. You will engage in cutting-edge design and testing of power electronic systems using WBG (SiC or GaN) technologies.
Responsibilities
- Design and test WBG- (SiC or GaN) based power electronic converter topologies, including active rectifiers, isolated DC-DC converters, solid-state transformers, and high-speed motor drives.
- Design and test power electronic converter digital control algorithms.
- Develop Controller-Hardware-in-the-Loop (CHIL), Power-Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL), or real-time (RT) test setups.
- Design and test systems based on WBG semiconductor modules ranging from 1.2 kV to 10 kV.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop solid-state power conversion systems.
- Provide technical input into business development activities.
- Create, review, and issue prototype and production level test procedures and test plans.
- Write and/or review EE focused patents, whitepapers, and technical conference/journal articles.
- Mentor junior engineers.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in electrical engineering, electrical design, schematic creation, hardware development, and PCB design.
- Experience with digital electronics, circuit design, and power electronics.
- Familiarity with magnetics and power systems.
- Hands-on experience with Altium, PLECS RT Box, Typhoon HIL, OPAL-RT, or similar platforms.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- United States Citizenship due to US Government ITAR program restrictions.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related major; graduate work may substitute for some experience.
- Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.
- Expertise in AC and DC power conversion topologies, wide bandgap semiconductor devices, and medium voltage power distribution.
- Experience in programming microcontrollers, DSPs, and FPGAs.
- Familiarity with high speed communications development using high performance FPGAs.
Work Environment
Work in a dynamic environment, designing and manufacturing large Power Systems, WBG Power Converters & Components, and Gate Drivers for naval applications. The facility is expanding to 40,000 square feet to accommodate the growth of our Power Systems group. Collaborate with a team of roughly 40-45 skilled professionals in developing advanced technologies for demanding environments.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Halethorpe, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $76.00/hr.
