Job Description
The Quality Inspector supports daily operations in a spice and seasoning production environment by performing critical sampling, inspection, and basic testing activities. This role ensures product integrity and quality by monitoring critical control points, verifying labels and weights, and confirming compliance with internal standards, regulatory food safety requirements, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). The Quality Inspector plays a vital role in identifying deviations, documenting non-conformances, and supporting corrective actions that drive continuous improvement in quality manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Perform sampling and basic physical and organoleptic (sensory) testing of spices and seasonings in both laboratory and production environments.
- Conduct seasoning and batch card reviews to verify accuracy and completeness of production documentation.
- Ensure accurate label and weight verification of raw materials and finished product packaging on production lines.
- Monitor and perform checks of metal detection control points during production to confirm proper function and product safety.
- Verify correct information and labeling of staged ingredients for the production of seasoning formulations.
- Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), and applicable food safety standards at all times.
- Document and report all deviations and non-conformances to operations leads and quality control supervisors in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the work environment, including laboratory and production areas, in accordance with company procedures.
- Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, and quality documentation.
- Collaborate with operations and quality teams to support corrective and preventive actions that address identified quality issues.
- Perform other duties as requested in support of departmental objectives and broader company business needs.
- Experience with quality inspection, quality control, and sample testing in a production or laboratory setting.
- Ability to perform visual inspection and basic physical testing of food products.
- Familiarity with quality assurance and quality control inspection practices.
- Ability to perform organoleptic (sensory) testing of spices and seasonings.
- Strong attention to detail to accurately identify deviations and non-conformances.
- Strong decision-making skills based on training and experience.
- Proactive approach with the initiative to follow tasks through to resolution.
- Previous experience in a laboratory or food manufacturing environment preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with production, operations, and quality teams.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and data entry.
- Comfort working with laboratory procedures, including sample preparation and handling.
- Ability to work effectively in environments that require strict adherence to GMPs, GLPs, and food safety standards.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in a related field such as food science, chemistry, biology, or a similar discipline.
- Experience working in a food manufacturing facility or laboratory environment.
- Familiarity with metal detection systems and critical control point monitoring in food production.
- Experience with data entry and basic documentation within quality control or laboratory systems.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills to support audits and traceability requirements.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally to support quality improvements and corrective actions.
This role operates in both production and laboratory settings within a spice and seasoning manufacturing environment. Work involves moderate standing, walking, reaching, climbing, stacking, and lifting throughout the shift. The production areas can be loud and dusty, with strong spice odors, and temperatures that may be hot or cold depending on the process and season. The position also requires working in a laboratory setting with chemicals of varying hazards, following appropriate safety procedures and use of protective equipment. The environment is fast-paced and hands-on, with a strong emphasis on cleanliness, sanitation, and adherence to safety and food quality standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jessup, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
