The aircraft ordnance technician performs a variety of duties and tasks such as inspecting ammunition, testing aircraft systems, performing preventive maintenance and effecting repairs, loading and fusing ammunition and arming/de-arming aircraft. Responsibilities of the Aircraft Ordnance Technician encompasses duties incident: to the inspection, maintenance and repair of armament equipment and loading of aviation ordnance on Marine Corps/Navy aircrafts.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs scheduled/unscheduled maintenance on ordnance, ordnance related equipment and armament systems. Maintains and repairs aircraft armament weapons systems, fire warning/extinguishing system, repair/troubleshooting, aircraft armament systems, and be familiar with OPNAVINST 8024.
- Employs appropriate safety precautions, security procedures, and record-keeping techniques for ordnance.
- Operates and performs operators' maintenance on armament weapons support equipment and aircraft armament equipment.
- Loads and unloads airborne weapons and stores aboard aircraft to include reconfiguration and functional testing of aircraft weapons release and control, missile, and gun systems.
- Removes, maintains, services, installs, and loads aircraft guns.
- Arms and de-arms aircraft.
- Conducts functional tests of racks, launchers, adapters and electrical components, aircraft armament circuits and maintains them in an operational status by appropriate preventive maintenance.
- Configures or reconfigures assigned aircraft for carriage of any aviation ammunition within the capability of the aircraft by installing or removing racks, launchers, adapters, and electrical components.
- Identifies munitions by type, nomenclature, and explosive hazard. Identifies the hazard present and appropriate emergency response procedures for each type of munitions handled.
- Transport explosives utilizing assigned handling and transportation equipment.
- Conducts ammunition inventories and maintains stock records of lots/serial numbers.
- Comply with all current sections of COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series applicable to aircraft maintenance and ALSS.
- Working knowledge of technical publications, NAMP and NALCOMIS aircraft maintenance applications.
- Perform other job-related duties as may be assigned.
- Ability to diagnose the deficiencies and malfunctions of ordnance systems.
- Must have the broad knowledge in the assembly and operation of complex and interrelated mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, and components of Weapons Systems.
- Ability to perform maintenance and repairs in accordance with applicable Technical Manuals and Bulletins.
- Ability to read specifications, blueprints, and wiring diagrams, use precision gauges, test instruments and alignment devices.
- Skill and knowledge to operate simple machine shop and hand tools.
- Working knowledge of safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Possess a valid US State driver's license.
- Ability to read and interpret data is required.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Ability to obtain a government flight line driver's license.
- Ability to obtain a secret security clearance.
- High School degree or equivalent required.
- Completion of specialized courses in ordnance is required.
- Four years actual and recent experience in the type of aircraft being serviced.
- Candidates with ordnance certification preferred.
- Must have experience with H-1 and H-60 helicopter ordnance.
- Must have experience with Crew Served Weapons (CSW) systems (50CAL/M240/Mini) and the actual maintenance (Disassembly/reassembly/inspections).
- Must obtain appropriate support equipment and/or material handling licensing upon initial unit assignment.
- Must meet the criteria to be qualified and certified as per OPNAVINST 8023.
- Completed CNATT AO (A) & (C) Courses
- Must meet the medical requirements for Explosive handlers and Explosive vehicle Operators contained in NAVMED P-117.
- May work in Aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.
- May be required to respond to a wide variety of operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
- May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
- May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
- Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.
- Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
- Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp, or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
- May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
- May be required to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
- Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
- Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
- Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
- May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, APU, etc.
