Job Description
This hybrid Mechanical Design Engineer role focuses on designing mechanical systems for a wide range of building projects, including commercial, infrastructure, government, K–12, higher education, healthcare, and laboratory facilities. You will use Revit and other design tools to develop high-quality mechanical designs, perform load calculations, and conduct regular site visits to assess existing conditions. Responsibilities
- Design mechanical systems for building projects across sectors such as commercial, infrastructure, government, K–12, higher education, healthcare, and laboratories.
- Develop and model mechanical designs using Revit to produce accurate and coordinated construction documents.
- Perform mechanical load calculations using tools such as Trane Trace or Carrier HAP to size and select appropriate equipment.
- Conduct weekly site visits to assess existing building conditions and gather field data to inform design decisions.
- Collaborate with project teams to integrate mechanical designs with other disciplines and ensure constructability.
- Use AutoCAD as needed to support design, documentation, and coordination efforts.
- Apply mechanical engineering principles to create efficient, reliable, and code-compliant building systems.
- Review and update designs based on site findings, project requirements, and stakeholder feedback.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and design records in accordance with company standards.
- Comply with all required background and drug screening processes as part of project and facility requirements.
- 5–10 years of experience in mechanical engineering or mechanical design for building projects.
- Proficiency in Revit for mechanical system design and documentation.
- Experience performing load calculations using Trane Trace or Carrier HAP.
- Strong background in mechanical design for building systems across multiple project types.
- Ability to conduct site visits and assess existing mechanical and building conditions.
- Capability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing in-office, remote, and field responsibilities.
- Ability to pass required federal drug screening and background checks.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or experience as a Mechanical Designer is highly valued, though a degree is not strictly required.
- Experience using AutoCAD for mechanical design and drafting.
- Familiarity with a variety of building types, including commercial, infrastructure, government, K–12, higher education, healthcare, and laboratories.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.

This position offers a hybrid work environment with three days per week in the office and two days working remotely. The role includes an average of one site visit per week to active or existing facilities to evaluate mechanical systems and building conditions. You will work with modern design tools such as Revit, Trane Trace or Carrier HAP for load calculations, and AutoCAD to support design and documentation. This is a Permanent position based out of Rockville, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $38.46 - $55.28/hr.
