Job Title: Precision CNC Machinist
Job Description
The Precision CNC Machinist sets up and operates 4- and 5-axis Haas and Makino CNC mills to produce high-tolerance components for plastic injection molds. This position combines hands-on machining with tool-room style problem-solving to support projects across aerospace, medical, and automotive applications in a dynamic job-shop environment where parts and challenges change daily.
Responsibilities
- Set up 4- and 5-axis Haas and Makino CNC mills for production of high-precision components.
- Operate CNC mills to machine plastic injection mold components to tight tolerances and quality standards.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications to plan machining operations.
- Perform tooling selection, setup, and basic tooling design decisions to optimize machining processes.
- Use Mastercam or similar CAM software, or at-machine programming, to create and adjust CNC programs as needed.
- Troubleshoot machining issues on the shop floor and apply tool-room style problem-solving to resolve them.
- Inspect parts during and after machining to verify dimensions and surface finishes meet requirements.
- Adjust machine offsets, feeds, and speeds to improve accuracy, surface finish, and efficiency.
- Collaborate with team members to plan jobs in a job-shop environment where each part and day can be different.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and care for machines, tools, and measuring equipment.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience setting up CNC mills for production or tooling work.
- Ability to program at the machine or within CAM software for CNC milling operations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Hands-on machining experience in a job-shop or similar environment.
- Experience working with tooling, fixtures, and basic tooling design decisions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills in a tool-room or machining context.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-tolerance, high-quality parts.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Approximately 1+ year of programming experience with Mastercam software.
- Experience machining molds or plastic injection mold components.
- Prior exposure to tool and die or mold making environments.
- Experience with Haas and Makino CNC mills.
- supporting aerospace, medical, or automotive industry components.
- Interest in expanding machining skills and taking on increasingly complex work.

Work Environment
The role is based in a small, well-lit, climate-controlled shop that is somewhat compact but organized and not cluttered. You will work with 4- and 5-axis Haas and Makino CNC mills and use Mastercam or similar programming tools in a job-shop setting. The facility is scheduled to move to a larger location in Buffalo later this year, offering an upgraded and more spacious environment as the operation grows.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Buffalo, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
