Job Title: Cost Accountant
Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing inventory accounting, analyzing production variances, and supporting the annual budget process. This role requires a strong understanding of fixed assets management, capital expenditure reporting, and ERP system transactions to assess financial performance.
Responsibilities
- Develop standard costs and inventory valuations, including cycle counting, production variance analysis, and reconciling discrepancies.
- Lead the annual physical inventory process and provide analysis on inventory reserves such as obsolete and slow-moving items.
- Support the budget process by developing standard overhead rates, capital expenditures, and annual spending budgets.
- Manage fixed assets and capital expenditure reporting.
- Analyze ERP system transactions to determine their impact on financial performance.
- Assess work in progress to ensure proper allocation of labor and materials and proactively analyze variance categories.
- Execute month-end system closing transactions and reconcile General Ledger accounts.
- Prepare and present financial reports, cost analysis reports, and other management reports to support decision-making.
- Maintain data integrity within the ERP system, ensuring consistency and providing support to all departments for new or updated information.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in cost accounting, inventory accounting, and variance analysis.
- Strong knowledge of fixed assets management.
- Proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP, EPICOR, or ORACLE.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel (pivot tables and vlookups).
- Understanding of GAAP.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Experience with SAP implementation is a plus.
Work Environment
The position is based in-office for five days a week, with flexibility for work-from-home options as needed. You will be part of a smaller office within a large, publicly traded company, benefiting from both a close-knit work environment and the resources of a large corporation. You will work closely with the Controller, Accounting Manager, VP of Finance, and other departments such as Engineering and Purchasing.
