Job Title: Controls Engineer
Job Description
The Controls Engineer will provide crucial electrical engineering decision-making skills for customer projects. This role involves supervising electrical engineers, draftsmen, subcontractors, and other essential engineering personnel to deliver a comprehensive turnkey conveyor control system that meets customer requirements. The engineer will collaborate closely with peers, subordinates, the Project Manager, Mechanical Project Engineer, Field Superintendent, and Subcontractors.
Responsibilities
- Collect and assimilate customer design requirements, needs, and specifications for functionality.
- Develop detailed designs of control systems to meet customer requirements.
- Create electrical drawings, plans, code, and operational configuration data.
- Supervise and review subcontractor work related to control system design and field wiring installation.
- Assist in developing a detailed project schedule for the electrical systems portion of the project.
- Collaborate closely with Mechanical Engineering to ensure Electrical/Mechanical system compatibility.
- Travel to job sites for coordination meetings, planning, installation support, debugging, start-up, and standby, which may include working off-shifts, weekends, and holidays to meet project schedules.
- Ensure all drawings, software, and job project files are maintained and archived upon project completion.
- Adhere to documentation requirements and support continuous improvement in company operations and processes.
- Travel up to 50%, which may last for extended periods.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in PLC programming using Rockwell and Siemens software.
- Experience with Rockwell Studio 5000 for PLC and Siemens TIA Portal/Win CC for HMI.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawing packages.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical.
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field or extensive experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in a related field, preferably in integrator or automotive sectors.
- Experience with conveyor systems controls.
- Possession of a passport for North American travel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with G16 STANDARD v6.0.
- Knowledge of Lockout, Energy, Control, MPS, and SCS for GM contractors.
- Experience in AutoCAD Electrical Design.
Work Environment
The role is primarily on-site, either in an office setting or on the plant floor, across various plant locations in North America. It involves a 40-week on-site project simulation support. Flexibility in working hours may be required to support project timelines, including potential off-shifts, weekends, and holidays.
