We are seeking a dynamic and self-motivated Research Associate with broad technical experience and demonstrated success executing scientific experiments using molecular techniques. This position will work closely with scientists in the New Traits team at our St. Louis location to support early trait discovery, as well as optimization of genome editing methods in sugarcane.

Looking for someone to be primarily responsible for gene editing responsibilities- DNA extractions/PCR and subsequent reporting and interpretations. THis is a role that requires a ton of attention to detail as well as a LEARNING mentality- they want people who are eager to take on learning new techniques and take ownership over seeing experiments through. They are smaller scale- no automation- so all done by hand and function more like an academic group, but they operate on tight turnarounds or roughly 1 week per experiment. Will also involve some sample prep and basic pipetting to evaluate. Will do some routine testing but also responsible for working closely with a Sr Scientist to develop new genetic traits for sugarcane

Key responsibilities:

• Assist in the planning and execution of experiments to deliver gene editing reagents to plant cells

• Independently perform molecular biology techniques such as PCR, digital PCR, DNA extraction, and sample preparation for sequencing

• Troubleshoot and optimize routine protocols such as PCR and digital PCR assays

• Perform regular timely maintenance of plant cell cultures

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date experimental records

• Plan and communicate within the team to ensure delivery of experimental timelines

• Follow and achieve high adherence to Quality Management and Stewardship SOPs

• Conduct routine lab maintenance activities as needed

• Prepare reports and presentations as needed

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree minimum (masters is okay) in Molecular Biology or related field with 2+ years of relevant work experience (Industry is preferred but academic works if they have a master's degree or something but MUST have experience in gene editing/PCR/DNA extraction and interpretations of those results.

Personality: LEARNING- someone who wants to expand their knowledge of molecular techniques and development of new genetic traits for sugarcane. Always adding in new techniques and methods an dit's important that someone has a learning mentality "What else can I do and try? What more can I learn" - be willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done- since they are a small lab, need people to plug an dplay

Extremely helpful if they already have some experience with cell tissue cultures and plant biology

• Working experience with gene editing tools in any organism is preferable

• Hands on experience in tissue culture and plant transformation is desirable

• Ability to work independently and to work effectively as part of a team are critical

• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, is essential

• A desire and ability to achieve independence and excellence in performing regular duties is required
