BCBS is seeking a Team Lead over Server Engineering.

The Team Lead Server Engineering is responsible for planning and leading the Server Engineering team in the research and implementation of new systems as well as the support of existing systems. The Team Lead Server Engineering is responsible for leading technology projects across all open systems infrastructure. The Team Lead Server Engineering is responsible for leading in the development of technical recommendations to improve the technology environment and meet corporate strategic goals. The Team Lead Server Engineering is responsible for ensuring all production technology environments are available and performing as expected. The Team Lead Server Engineering is responsible for planning and leading efforts to improve the business recovery environment, as well as leading and participating in the semi-annual business recovery tests.

Job-Specific Requirements:

• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Math or related field or equivalent experience required.

• 8+ years’ experience with Microsoft Windows Server operating systems and in supporting server related infrastructure and software.

• Must have experience in leading technology related projects.

• Must have good understanding of Microsoft Windows Active Directory.

• Must have a thorough understanding of current networking technologies, security administration, and backup & disaster recovery technologies and solutions.

• Must be proficient in use of LAN technologies and current corporate standard desktop productivity applications as well as project management and visual documentation tools.

• Must have working knowledge of cloud technology.

• Must be able to plan and design infrastructure from an enterprise architecture perspective.

• Must have expert knowledge in Windows and Linux operating systems.

• Must be able to automate tasks via PowerShell or other tools. Includes identifying tasks that are good candidates for automation.

• Skilled in data gathering, reporting, and analysis as related to technology used by team.

• Must have strong understanding of Information Security concepts.

• Must have working knowledge of development concepts and processes.

Technologies at BCBS:

- VMWare Hypervisor (98% virtual with 600 virtual servers and less than 10 physical) - they are exploring other options to move off VMWare depending on their potential price increases. Their VMWare contract is up May 2025.

- VMWare Horizon View for virtual desktops (500 of their 600 users have a virtual desktop)

- Primarily Windows server with a few Linux

- Pure SAN is primary storage solution

- Nimble SAN for tier 2

- Dell/EMC SAN for backups
