Our client, an industry leading fiberglass company, is seeking a lab technician to help with applications production and testing.
Will be supporting the Science &Technology testing lab for fiber glass production.
In the test lab- conduct tests and analyzes products to determine strength, tensile, chemical content, and other characteristics. Documents results of tests and analysis.
We are seeking a candidate with Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Polymer, or Chemistry, for the role of producing, testing and evaluating fiberglass composite materials. Tasks will include manufacturing of fiberglass reinforced composites with thermoset, thermoplastic and novel chemistries using manufacturing techniques such as: vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM), polymer impregnation of fibers and NOL cylinder winding, extrusion, pultrusion, and injection molding. Analytical testing will include universal physical testing equipment (tensile/compression, flexural, shear, fatigue, etc.), thermal and spectroscopic analysis of polymers, and sizing's (DSC, DMA, FTIR), and physical/chemical testing of glass (crystallization, XRF, UV-Vis, FTIR).
This is an entry level contract position primarily in R&D laboratory and limited manufacturing environment. Related experiences are a plus, although not necessary. These are unique set of skills and thorough training will be provided where needed. This job is a Monday-Friday day shift position; occasional overtime hours are sometimes required, but infrequent. Potential candidates should expect to work with fiberglass, various organic chemicals, and complex composite production machinery for eight hour shifts. Mechanical aptitude and basic fundamental skills in mathematics is highly desired. The ability to stay on task, follow instruction, and work unsupervised after training is completed is important. Good work ethic and interest in composites production and science will make the potential candidate successful in this role.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Associates degree in chemistry or engineering
Experience in a laboratory setting (1+ year) or in applications setting
Experience with stress testing, tensile testing would be a plus.
Experience in manufacturing/chemical environment
Experience with ISO 17025
