Description:

Specimen Processing supporting the laboratory. The Specimen Processor is responsible for receiving, processing, and distributing laboratory specimens. This role ensures that all specimens are handled efficiently and accurately, maintaining the integrity of the samples for testing. The Specimen Processor works closely with laboratory staff and other healthcare professionals to support patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Specimen Handling: Receive and log specimens from various collection points, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
  • Processing: Prepare specimens for testing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and storage.
  • Data Entry: Accurately enter specimen information into the laboratory information system (LIS).
  • Quality Control: Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain specimen integrity and prevent contamination.
  • Communication: Coordinate with laboratory technicians and other healthcare staff to resolve any issues related to specimen processing.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all safety and regulatory guidelines, including HIPAA and OSHA standards.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain inventory of processing supplies and reagents.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and address any discrepancies or issues with specimens.


Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Lab Experience preferred but not required.
