Job Overview

Macy's has launched an online Marketplace and we are seeking a Marketplace Business Development Associate who will execute an ongoing category development and growth strategy. In partnership with Macy's Merchandising and other partners, this associate will research market trends, identify whitespace opportunities that supports Macy's curated category ambitions, and source high quality brands and sellers to join Macy's Marketplace. In addition, this role will be responsible for identifying and executing strategies to increase the exposure and growth of the category (e.g. Site Merchandising, Marketing, etc.).

Essential Functions
  • Research market trends (categories, styles, brands, SKUs) and identify opportunities for Macy's to fill whitespace gaps through the Marketplace model
  • Partner closely with the Merchant organization to translate merchant ambitions and market insights into executable category, curation, and merchandising strategy for our Marketplace
  • Build a sourcing strategy that includes discovery and identification of high-quality brands and sellers to meet category assortment strategies
  • Recruit high-priority sellers and continuously improve the process for Marketplace seller acquisition
  • Educate sellers on Marketplace platforms requirements, and negotiate contract terms
  • Drive growth strategy and plan, keeping a pulse on competitors and keeping Macy's at the forefront of marketplace strategy.
  • Develop deep knowledge of the Macy's brand and customers to ensure the marketplace reflects appropriately.

  • Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year college or university
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Possess knowledge of, and passion for, digital commerce and specifically marketplace platforms. Previous experience launching and/or scaling an online marketplace is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, sales, and facilitation skills (oral, written, and listening). Ability to understand, organize, and communicate complex information in an easily understandable format tailored to a variety of audiences.
  • Track record of demonstrating success with sourcing partnerships.
  • Customer-centric mindset and experience with cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to solve problems with internal and external stakeholders and be a self-starter who can thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
  • Ability to effectively share technical information and communicate technical issues/solutions to all levels of business.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects - can identify primary and secondary objectives, prioritize tasks, and communicate informative updates to team members.
  • Ability and desire to take project ownership.
  • Ability to think creatively, strategically, and technically.
  • Bring positive energy, optimism, and passion to work every day.
  • Have a bias for action and act with deliberate speed.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Maintains confidentiality and security of sensitive company information.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and Company needs.

Physical Requirements
  • Position requires prolonged periods of standing/walking around facility or department.
  • Frequent use of computers and other technology necessary to perform job duties, including handheld electronic equipment.
  • May involve reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping and color vision.
  • Frequently lift/move up to 25lbs.
