Job Description
The Senior Commodity Buyer is a crucial role responsible for managing the complexity of auto parts pricing and investing in annual cost reduction. This position significantly impacts the financial performance of high-demand manufacturing areas by establishing strategic supplier relationships and optimizing part design elements. The specialist will be tasked with selecting the best suppliers based on cost, quality, and delivery efficiency, while also managing project roles at the team level.
Responsibilities
- Develop, gain approval, and execute purchasing model and supplier strategies for assigned commodities and suppliers, involving 8 to 10 suppliers with an annual spend of $300M to $500M.
- Research and monitor industry trends, sourcing technology, and market prices to develop model or supplier strategies.
- Gain consensus on new model supplier selection and manage multiple model developments through collaboration with design teams.
- Ensure accurate and timely supplier selection and Bill of Materials (BOM) maintenance.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships.
- Establish and achieve logical new model cost targets through supplier selection and negotiation.
- Achieve annual mass production cost improvement goals between $7M and $12M.
- Ensure accurate and timely quotation processing to facilitate efficient payment to suppliers during mass production.
- Effectively manage projects that support business needs, including diversity initiatives.
- Create and implement continuous improvement activities to support lean practices.
- Mentor and develop entry-level personnel.
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in Purchasing, Sales, Quality Control, or Engineering, with a preference for purchasing.
- Ability to negotiate based on logic, manage costs, and maintain supplier relationships.
- Strong problem-solving skills and project management abilities.
- Previous automotive purchasing experience.
- Experience with ERP systems, commodity management, and purchase order processing.
The position involves a Monday to Friday schedule from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with four days onsite and one day remote work. The dress code requires wearing a Honda uniform.
