Job Description
This CAD Drafter / Designer role supports engineering and manufacturing teams by creating, updating, and maintaining precise 2D and 3D CAD models and production drawings. You will translate design requirements into clear, manufacturable documentation that enables efficient production, supports new product development, and helps deliver high-quality products.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings for components, assemblies, and product variations.
- Revise and update drawings to reflect design changes while maintaining accurate revision control and documentation.
- Produce fabrication and assembly drawings that clearly communicate requirements to support manufacturing needs on the shop floor.
- Assist with creating and updating Bills of Materials (BOMs) and link them to drawings within an ERP or document management system.
- Support new product development and prototyping by generating layouts, exploded views, and other visual documentation.
- Maintain organized CAD libraries, including file structures, naming conventions, and version control practices.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams to ensure design intent, manufacturability, and clarity of documentation.
- Follow established drafting standards, contribute to continuous improvement of documentation practices, and support process enhancements.
- Ensure all drawings and models meet quality, safety, and compliance requirements, including appropriate dimensioning, tolerances, and annotations.
- Apply dimensioning, tolerancing, and basic GD&T principles to ensure accurate and consistent production documentation.
- Incorporate engineering change orders (ECOs) and redline updates into CAD models and drawings in a timely and accurate manner.
- Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent CAD drafting experience.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, with Autodesk Inventor preferred and SolidWorks acceptable.
- Hands-on experience with 3D CAD modeling, including parametric part, assembly, and configuration modeling.
- Experience creating manufacturing-ready 2D and 3D production drawings with clear layouts and annotations.
- Strong understanding of dimensioning and tolerances, including basic GD&T concepts.
- Experience producing fabrication and assembly drawings aligned with manufacturing and shop-floor requirements.
- Experience creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs) tied to drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when working with complex models and multiple drawing projects.
- Ability to manage multiple drawing projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and sales.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with ERP systems or document management systems for managing BOMs and drawings is a plus.
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
- Experience with engineering change orders (ECOs) and redline updates.
- Interest in contributing to continuous improvement of drafting standards, documentation processes, and CAD library organization.
You will work in a collaborative environment that brings together engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams to deliver high-quality, manufacturable designs. The role involves extensive use of 3D CAD tools such as Autodesk Inventor and SolidWorks, along with 2D drafting in applications like AutoCAD. You will regularly interact with ERP or document management systems to maintain Bills of Materials and ensure accurate revision control. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Youngstown, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
