Job Description
As a Pharmacy Technician (Acute Care Tech II), you will play a vital role in ensuring safe, accurate, and timely medication distribution throughout the hospital. You will be responsible for preparing and dispensing oral and intravenous medications, triaging patient orders, and maintaining the integrity of automated dispensing systems (ADS) such as Pyxis. Your work will directly support pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in delivering high-quality patient care. You’ll manage unit dose and stock medications, ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations, and contribute to a collaborative, fast-paced acute care environment.
Responsibilities
- Fill and dispense oral and IV medications for inpatient use.
- Triage and prioritize medication orders based on urgency and accuracy.
- Maintain and troubleshoot automated dispensing systems (ADS).
- Ensure proper documentation and labeling of medications.
- Support inventory control and restocking of pharmacy supplies.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to meet patient care needs.
- Adhere to aseptic technique and sterile compounding standards.
- Assist in the preparation of non-hazardous IV mixtures and chemo (if certified).
- Uphold safety protocols and prevent medication errors.
- Pharmacy Technician Certificate
- Oregon Pharmacy Technician License (PT) or Oregon Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT)
- Experience with EPIC (EMR/EHR)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated regular and consistent attendance at work
- PTCB Certification highly preferred
- BLS certification (American Heart Association) highly preferred
- Experience with automated medication dispensing systems
- IV room experience for non-hazardous medications preferred
- 1+ year(s) of inpatient hospital pharmacy experience strongly preferred
- Specialty certification (e.g. ACPE approved sterile compounding certification) preferred
Located at Providence Seaside Hospital in Seaside, OR, this position offers a schedule of Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, with weekend requirements on Saturday & Sunday from 7:30 AM-6:00 PM. Scrub color can be any color or business casual, with free parking available. The hospital is a critical access facility with 23 staffed beds. This is a 13-week contract with potential for extension.
